ADU PROGRAM
ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units) are secondary small homes attached to, or detached from, the main house. They are independent units with their own kitchen and bath. They can be stand alone, converted from a garage, a part of the main house or an addition to the main house.
In recognition of the need to build affordable and infill housing, the rules and regulations governing permitting for ADUs has significantly relaxed, allowing for an ease in permitting and building costs.
Studio Boa is deeply committed to the design and build of small, efficient spaces for their low carbon footprint. The creation of ADU homes that supports extended family and community housing often resulting in an income stream for the home owner while providing delightful places to live.
In 2021 Studio Boa designed and built Santa Cruz’s first 499 square foot strawpanel prefab ADU. Here’s what one prospective client noted at the open house: “Seriously, your 499 squares were the highlight of the whole week. I was already excited to work together but you've upped the ante to accomplish such an aesthetic coup in this tiny treasure.”
Given shortage of land and the critical need for housing, we see ADU’s as a regenerative solution for the future.
